CALGARY - The Calgary Flames have dealt journeyman centre Brendan Morrison to the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday for minor league defenceman Brian Connelly.

The Chicago Blackhawks have acquired veteran center Brendan Morrison from the Calgary Flames for minor league defenseman Brian Connelly. The 36-year-old Morrison has 200 goals and 601 points over parts of 15 NHL seasons, the past two with the Flames. He has four goals and seven assists this season. Morrison has also skated for New Jersey, Vancouver, Anaheim, Dallas and Washington.

It's awfully hard to win games when you can't score goals. The lack of offense has been prevalent with the Flames well beyond the 1-0 loss to the San Jose Sharks in the final game before the All-Star break. Sure, the Flames racked up six goals against the Oilers recently, but in five games on either side of that affair, they've managed four goals. Defense may win championships, but you're not going to win with many low-scoring games. "We've got to produce more than that. It doesn't feel good, especially for a lot of us whose responsibility it is to help that way," said F Michael Cammalleri. In a game where goals were at a premium, Benn Ferriero went back to his baseball roots to find a way to give the San Jose Sharks a win. Ferriero's goal with 8:25 remaining was all the offensive support goaltender Antti Niemi would need in San Jose's 1-0 blanking of the Calgary Flames in the final game before the All-Star break for both teams.

Stempniak had his second career hat trick and added an assist to help Calgary rout Edmonton 6-2 on Saturday night. The Flames have won nine in a row in the series, four this season, and 16 of 17.

The Calgary Flames and Los Angeles Kings have been playing low-scoring games for the majority of the season. And with the goaltenders they have, it's easy to see why. Miikka Kiprusoff made 31 saves and stopped two of the three shots he faced in a shootout, leading the Flames to a 2-1 victory over the Kings on Thursday night.
